Session ID: 280782 | Global Environmental Change (GC057) Fire Representations in Earth System Models and New Frontiers in Observations

This session advances fire representation across the modeling hierarchy, from process-level parameterizations to full ESM integration and evaluation, alongside next-generation observational products. The conveners invite contributions on: (1) ignition, fuel accumulation, fire spread, and post-fire vegetation feedbacks; (2) scale mismatches between grid-cell fire modules and local fire behavior; (3) land-atmosphere coupling including aerosols, albedo modification, and evapotranspiration; (4) human dimensions such as fire suppression and land-use interactions; and (5) multi-model benchmarking. On the observational side, they welcome satellite data, lidar, atmospheric inversions, and machine learning approaches. They particularly encourage contributions bridging ESM development and observational innovation through shared benchmarking frameworks.
